Driver allegedly tries to bribe witness after fatal car accident

On Behalf of | Mar 1, 2021 | Car Accidents |

Motor vehicle accidents are harrowing experiences. Even minor fender benders can cause spikes in blood pressure and cold sweats. Though, we are still expected to go through the motions. We call the police and our attorneys, make statements (if advised by our attorneys), and get everyone’s insurance information. What is not expected or allowable is to bribe witnesses, which is what is alleged by the Union County prosecutor’s office after an Elizabeth, New Jersey, fatal car accident.

The fatal motor vehicle accident

According to the Union County prosecutor’s office charging documents released last Wednesday, the fatal motor vehicle accident occurred on Monday, Feb. 15, shortly before 3:00 a.m. on the Garden State Parkway. The Newark man’s Range Rover struck an East Orange man’s Lexus that left the Lexus in flames on the center median and the Range Rover upside down.

After the car accident

When a good Samaritan attempted to help, the Newark man allegedly offered him a reward if he drove him away from the scene of the motor vehicle accident. The good Samaritan refused. The Newark man was later sent to the hospital and released. After his release from the hospital though, the Newark man was arrested. He is currently being held at the Union County Jail. Unfortunately, the East Orange man was pronounced dead shortly after 3:30 a.m. at a nearby hospital after life saving measures failed.

Options after fatal accidents

For East Orange, New Jersey, residents this may come as a shock to lose a local. However, their family has options. Through a wrongful death lawsuit, the surviving family can seek civil justice and compensation for all of the pain and anguish they must ender as a result of the other driver’s negligence. But, the first step is contacting an attorney to go over one’s options and available remedies.
