Police file charges against trucker in weekend truck accident

by | Aug 16, 2013 | Truck Accidents |

Despite efforts by federal regulators to tighten laws governing truckers, there are still many who continue to cut corners and test the patience of authorities. As a result, many of these truckers cause a fatal truck accident here in Newark and throughout New Jersey. Often, these accidents are catastrophic, as commercial trucks are larger and more powerful than small passenger vehicles.

Because of a truck’s ability to inflict so much damage, truckers and trucking companies are required to undergo regular training and seminars to educate and inform them about regulations and proper safety techniques. However, trucking accidents remain a major problem on America’s major roads and highways.

In Lawrence Township, Mercer County, New Jersey, a mother and two of her children were victims of a recent weekend truck collision that resulted in their deaths. The truck driver is being held responsible for the crash.

According to reports, a 30-year-old mother of three died, along with her nine-year-old son and her three-and-a-half-month-old son. The father and an eight-year-old daughter survived the accident, but suffered injuries. The father and daughter are now in stable condition.

Investigators told sources that the 45-year-old truck driver was allegedly making an illegal U-turn when his truck struck the family’s sports utility vehicle. Emergency crews and first responders had to use hydraulic equipment to free the victims. Because of his responsibility in the accident, the truck driver is charged with three counts of death by auto and may be facing serious penalties as a consequence.

Trucks are necessary to deliver goods to different parts of the country. While they serve this purpose, they can also be hazardous to other drivers on the road. Authorities often warn truckers about the importance of safe driving. Factors such as distractions and fatigue also play a huge part in the truck driver’s behavior while driving.

A victim of a truck accident often suffers serious injuries that have long-term effects on their physical abilities and their mental states. In these cases, compensation that will cover accident-related expenses can be essential to one’s recovery and long-term financial security.
